Vergennes is a community, in every sense of the word. If you're looking for a slice of Americana, this is the place. You'll find a public park in the heart of the city where people gather, music plays and local food is served.  Our historic, walkable downtown beckons with charming shops and some of the best restaurants in New England.  It is also home to two unique attractions: The Bixby Memorial Free Library, a magnificent example of Greek Revival architecture and a beloved resource to the five towns it serves, and the Vergennes Opera House, our beautifully restored, acoustically superb venue which features a year-round schedule of musical and theater performances.

The Otter Creek runs through our little city and offers a beautiful view of the waterfalls, fishing, picnicking and a picturesque boat ride to Lake Champlain.  Outdoor recreation opportunities such as hiking, camping, golf, and more are right out our front door and the state's largest city, Burlington, is an easy commute.

Our little city is a place where residents work with one another to make things better.  We celebrate together and support our neighbors and businesses. When a popular restaurant recently relocated from one Main Street block to another, a crowd of locals organized a "chair parade" and helped them move the furniture down the street while singing and celebrating along the way.  When the varsity team has a big home game, it's not unusual for the whole town to show up and cheer them on.  In Vergennes, it’s easy for people to connect and feel a sense of belonging. We may be only two square miles, but we’re truly the Little City with a Big Heart!
